Lateral design
Lateral forces in a flagpole are generated from natural events like earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, and even flash floods. These natural events create forces that attack the integrity of a flagpole in multiple ways: vertically resulting in uplift forces and horizontally resulting in overturning, and sliding forces.
Without a proper engineering analysis, structural design, and proper anchorage installation during construction, these forces can produce structural damage and even destruction to the flagpole. Modern engineering design and construction practices can effectively resist these forces by reinforcing the flagpole calculations and engineered foundations structure, providing a complete integral load path.
